These Goldenberries (aka Incan Berries) are raw, sun-dried and wildcrafted. Nutritious snacks for kids and can be used in a wide variety of recipes. They are a great source of B12 and many other viable nutrients. Kids love them because they have a sweat and source taste. Great candy replacer!

Source and Processing

These Goldenberries (Physalis peruviana) are raw, wildcrafted, and carefully sun-dried. They are sourced directly from the families in Peru who harvest using sustainable methods. They are free of heavy metals, chemicals, and pesticides.

Benefits

The Goldenberry is an annual herb indigenous to many parts of the tropics, including the Amazon. It grows up to one meter high, bearing small, cream-colored flowers, and produces small, light yellow-orange, edible fruit. The dried Goldenberry is a succulent golden fruit the size of a dime. They are protected by papery husks akin to tomatillos.

Dried, they make a delicious, tart, and highly nutritious and exotic citrus flavored "raisin."

They are a good source of bioflavinoids, antioxidants, phosphorous, pectin, vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B6, and B12. B12 is a critical nutrient for vegans and vegetarians.

Some of the potential benefits of Goldenberries are:

  • Antiviral
  • Anti-carcinogenic
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antihistamine

In folk medicine, Goldenberries have been used as a medicinal herb for cancer, malaria, asthma, hepatitis, dermatitis and rheumatism.

For a fruit they are also exceptionally high in protein, about sixteen percent.

They make for nutritious snacks for kids and can be used in a wide variety of recipes, such as, smoothies, pies, cookies, energy bars, and desserts. In South Africa, Goldenberry Jam is considered a delicacy.
